ATHOL – At last Monday’s Annual Town Meeting, it was more than just the usual business that was conducted.
“You know, you’re sitting in a beautiful building that was built 102 years ago,” Town Manager Shaun Suhoski told those in attendance at Town Hall. “It was dedicated 100 years ago.”
Suhoski then read a short proclamation from the office of Gov. Maura Healey to the residents of Athol, signed by the governor and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll.
“On behalf of the residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” began the proclamation, “I am pleased to confer upon you this Governor’s Citation in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Memorial Building.”
“You should be proud,” Suhoski told residents, “because you funded not only a roof, but other repairs that were needed to the roof, a new cupola, and you restored a hundred-year-old clock – and it looks beautiful. So, thank you. Take pride.”
