Girls Basketball Roundup: Frontier opens game on 24-1 run to knock off Franklin Tech, 82-28 (PHOTOS)

The Frontier girls basketball team was ready to go from the opening tip against Franklin Tech on Friday.
The Redhawks broke open a 24-1 lead just seven minutes into the contest before taking a 56-14 halftime advantage. That allowed them to run away with an 82-28 independent victory in Turners Falls.
“Everyone who was healthy played and scored,” Frontier coach Dave Machon said. “I was very proud of the way they commanded the floor defensively and moved the ball unselfishly on offense.”
Skyler Steele knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter to finish with 18 points for the Redhawks (6-0). Jazzy Hayes finished with 13 points, Olivia Machon scored 11 points, Whitney Campbell tallied 10 points, Addie Harrington scored seven points while Abby Schreiber and Harper Modestow each added six points in the victory.
Hannah Gilbert tossed in a team-high 11 points for the Eagles while Ariel Peters scored six points and Abi Dobias tallied five points in the loss.
Mohawk Trail 31, Greenfield 22 — The Warriors earned their first win of the season on Friday, outscoring the Green Wave 10-2 in the fourth quarter to earn an independent victory in Buckland.
Natalie Lanoue scored 13 points, Valerie Bzomowski scored eight points, Bella Pettengill tossed in six points while Emmalee Inman added three points in the win.
Anna Bucala recorded nine points, Edlerina Cecunjanin scored eight points and Tayler Bergeron tacked on five points for Greenfield.
