HS Roundup: Mahar girls basketball earns second win of season following 44-33 triumph over Palmer

The Mahar girls basketball team added a second tally in the win column on Friday. 

Hosting Palmer, the Senators pulled ahead 23-10 at the half and held off the Panthers in the second half to earn a 44-33 Franklin County League North victory in Orange. 

Hayden Comeau had her way offensively for Mahar, finishing with 18 points. Julia Hatch scored 10 points, Taylor Paluk tallied eight points and Lexi Ares added five points in teh winning effort. 

Easthampton 36, Greenfield 23 — The Eagles led 17-11 at the half to defeat the Green Wave in a Franklin County League North contest in Easthampton Friday. 

Elderina Cecunjanin finished with six points, Natalia Cody scored five points while Mackensie Goncalves recorded four points for Greenfield. 

Ware 37, Mohawk Trail 22 — Bella Pettengill finished with 12 points for the Warriors but it wasn’t enough to get the job done, as Ware took a 24-14 lead into the half to knock off Mohawk Trail in Franklin County League South action in Buckland Friday. 

Natalie Lanoue tossed in four points while Emmalee Inman, Aurora Moynihan and Monique Hadley each scored two points for the Warriors. 

Ludlow 48, Pioneer 31 — Kyler McClelland swished a 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to give the Panthers a 17-16 lead at the break but it was all Ludlow in the final 16 minutes, as the Lions pulled away with an independent victory in Ludlow Friday.

McClelland went on to finish with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists, Maggie Tsipenyuk scored 11 points to go along with six boards and four assists, Natalie Rios recorded six points and 16 rebounds while Kiara Gruszkowski added nine rebounds for Pioneer.

Mohawk Trail’s Addie Loomis kicked the season alpine ski  sea son off on the right foot on Thursday at Berkshire East, blazing through the slalom in a time of 46.35 seconds to take first place. 

The Warrior girls littered  the top 50. Lydie Pinkham placed fourth (48.73), Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner came in eighth (51.99), Grace Sisum took 13th (54.42), Brooke Koshinsky finished in 19th (59.60), Caroline  Makoskiej came in 31st (6 5.48), Teagan Hale took 45th (74,96), Ohia Dellert finished in 47th (75.39) while Charlotte Bishop placed 50th (76.52) for Mohawk Trail.
