Art and science of digital infrared photography

ATHOL – Join an exploration into the world of digital infrared photography, where art meets science, to reveal an invisible spectrum. This event will be held at the Athol Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 5:30 p.m.

Discuss the basics of infrared light and its unique properties. Discover how standard digital cameras are modified to capture infrared light, and learn how this medium transforms landscapes, portraits, and everyday scenes into dreamlike images.

Practical techniques for capturing and processing infrared photographs, along with artistic insights on how infrared photography enhances textures, highlights contrasts, and brings an ethereal quality to photographs will be covered.

This session is ideal for photographers looking to broaden their creative horizons and gain a deeper understanding of light beyond the visible spectrum. All are welcome.

Mount Grace hosts agricultural resource fair and soil health workshop

PHILLIPSTON – On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Mount Grace will be hosting a free resource fair designed to connect Massachusetts’ agricultural community with resources provided by non-profit agricultural stakeholders and government partners. The event will feature a soil health workshop at 1 p.m. and resource expo at 3 p.m. Connect with organizations like NRCS, NOFA, MDAR & more. Pre-register to claim a free-soil test voucher. Light refreshments will be provided.

The fair will be held at Red Apple Farm, 455 Highland Ave., Phillipston. This free event will start with a soil health workshop led by UMass extension. Stick around after the workshop to learn more about resources offered through the following service providers:

Holly Jolly Vendor Fair

ATHOL – The Holly Jolly Vendor Fair will be held at the Athol Congregational Church, Uptown Common in Athol on Saturday, Dec. 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Over 25 vendors will be ready to help with holiday shopping. There will be lots of different artists, crafters and foodies. Mrs. Claus will be there, too, to make cookies and crafts with the children. Lunch will be available for sale.

St. John’s Episcopal Church Christmas Bazaar

ATHOL – St. John’s Episcopal Church, 15 Park Ave, Athol, have been busy preparing for the annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bazaar will also feature a huge center table, knits and crafts, bake sale, snack bar, Santa’s workshop, cookies by the pound, lottery tree, games, jewelry, thrift shop, and more. Drawings start promptly at 2 p.m.

Pioneer Valley Brass concert in Winchendon

WINCHENDON – The First Universalist Parish of North Dana will sponsor a free program of traditional and modern holiday music, arranged for brass quintet and performed by the Pioneer Valley Brass at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 126 Central Street, Winchendon, Sunday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m.

The concert is part of a series of Vespers programs with musical services sponsored by the North Dana Parish since 1930, when the parish had to leave North Dana for the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir. The program will include “Carol of the Bells,” arranged by Price; “Christmas Carol Festival,” arr. by Nagel; “The Christmas Hymn,” by Grant; “Santa’s Sleigh Ride,” by North; “March of the Kings,” and “Une Jeune Pucelle,” arr. by Tandy and many more. The program is always subject to change.

The First Universalist Parish of North Dana will also sponsor the Pioneer Valley Brass performing on Saturday Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham, and on Sunday, Dec. 22 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Greenfield. Maureen Riendeau is the Music Coordinator for the First Universalist Parish of North Dana.
