GILL — Route 2 eastbound just west of the Turners Falls-Gill Bridge will be able to reopen to traffic after four or five weeks of work to install an earth support system, the state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

Following substantial rainfall on July 21 that resulted in a landslide by the Gill-Greenfield town line, MassDOT contractors have been working to address the slope erosion. In the meantime, the following detours are in place:

■Traffic will be detoured via Interstate 91 northbound to Route 10 (Exit 50A).

■Traffic will continue to Route 63 southbound to rejoin Route 2 in Erving.

Traffic control measures will consist of detour signs, message boards, arrow boards and police details, according to MassDOT. Drivers are advised to expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency, MassDOT advises.
