GILL — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is closing Route 2 eastbound just west of the Turners Falls-Gill Bridge until further notice to allow crews to efficiently address slope erosion.

Following substantial rainfall on Friday evening that resulted in a landslide by the Gill-Greenfield town line, Route 2 was closed for roughly 24 hours. It reopened to traffic on Saturday afternoon.

With this new closure, the following detours are in place:

■Traffic will be detoured via Interstate 91 northbound to Route 10 (Exit 50A).

■Traffic will continue to Route 63 southbound to rejoin Route 2 in Erving.

Traffic control measures will consist of detour signs, message boards, arrow boards and police details, according to MassDOT. Drivers are advised to expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency, MassDOT advises.
